A cloth takes the time it takes. Pick one to begin. You can only choose once.
Lower the cloth into a dye bath. Choose a pigment and how deep it steeps. The deeper the colour, the longer the bath. Or skip the bath and paint it by hand.
Every bath has its own temper. The cloth may come out a shade darker or lighter.
It leaves the table for the drying rack in your studio. It will be dry in about 2 min.
About 2 min to dry. Watch it from your studio, or start the next cloth while this one dries.
Leave it to the pot. Come back and lift it out when the steam is done. You can’t rush a leaf.

Leaf tips peek from the seam and the dye is already blushing through the wrap. What it becomes stays sealed until the unroll.
The pot is full. Lift one out, or let one go, before you cook another.
This is the good part. Leave it to the pot and come back to lift it out.
This one takes a while, and you don’t have to wait here. Wander off; we’ll email you the moment the steam is done.
Lift the bundle out of the pot and into the cooling crate. While it cools, the pot is free for the next one. The unroll is close now.
It has rested and the colours have settled. Open it when you like. The choosing is the payoff.
It will never happen the same way twice.
The cloth remembers everything you gave it, the dye, the leaves, the long wait in the pot.
